Independent Laboratory Testing

When research material arrives in a laboratory, the label on the vial should not be the only source of information about what is inside. Analytical testing provides researchers with data they can review before using a material in their work.

At Peptides Online, our research peptides are independently tested, with analytical documentation linked to individual batches. The purpose is straightforward: researchers should be able to check the available test results rather than simply relying on a purity statement printed on a product page.

Why independent testing matters

Peptide quality can vary between production batches. For that reason, testing a sample from a batch provides useful information about its analytical profile at the time it was examined.

We use independent laboratory analysis as part of our quality process. This separates the analytical work from our product descriptions and gives researchers access to supporting documentation for the material supplied.

The results are recorded within a Certificate of Analysis (CoA), where available for the relevant batch.

HPLC purity testing

High-performance liquid chromatography, usually shortened to HPLC, is used to assess the purity profile of a peptide sample.

During HPLC analysis, components within the sample are separated. This allows the laboratory to identify the main peptide peak and detect other measurable components present in the analysed sample.

The resulting chromatogram provides a purity measurement for that particular test sample. We publish the reported result rather than treating a general purity figure as being automatically applicable to every production batch.

Mass spectrometry and identity

Purity and identity are related, but they are not the same thing.

A sample may produce a strong purity result, but researchers may also want evidence that the material analysed corresponds to the expected peptide. Mass spectrometry can be used alongside chromatography to examine molecular mass and support identity confirmation.

Where mass spectrometry has been carried out, the relevant analytical information is included within the available batch documentation.

Batch-specific Certificates of Analysis

We believe a CoA is most useful when it can be connected to the material it represents.

Our batch documentation therefore includes identifying information that allows the analytical report to be matched with a particular production batch. Depending on the test performed, a CoA may show:

  • peptide or compound name
  • batch or sample reference
  • reported purity
  • analytical method
  • chromatographic data
  • mass spectrometry data, where applicable
  • testing or report date

Researchers can review available certificates through our CoA Library and compare the batch information with the product received.

What laboratory testing does - and does not - tell you

Analytical testing provides information about the sample examined by the laboratory. It should not be interpreted as evidence of clinical effectiveness, medical suitability or safety for human use.

Our products are supplied strictly for in vitro laboratory research use only. They are not intended for human or veterinary use, diagnosis, treatment, food, cosmetic use or personal experimentation.

Independent testing is simply part of making our research materials more transparent. Rather than asking researchers to accept a quality claim at face value, we aim to provide the analytical documentation behind it.
